Howard Franklin
Howard Franklin is the doyen of flowers, an accomplished and highly respected International Lecturer, Demonstrator and Judge of Professional Floristry and Floral Design.
Howard studied Art and Design at Shrewsbury School of Art and holds a National Diploma in Design and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art.
He studied Decorative Design and Floristry with the late Constance Spry,and then with Moyses Stevens the Court Florists, and was appointed as personal Florist to a member of the British Royal Family.
In 1972 he represented Great Britain in the First World Flower Cup in Holland,and became World Champion for Bridal Design.The following November he was a Designer of the flowers for the Wedding of HRH The Princess Anne at Westminster Abbey.
For many years he exhibited at all the leading Flower Shows in the United Kingdom,which lead to him being invited to show at Chelsea Flower Show for ten successive years were he was honoured by the Royal Horticultural Society with a Gold Grenfell Medal. He also holds the National Diploma of the Society of Floristry and the National Judges Diploma.
Howard was invited by Peter Hercombe a BBC Editor to be a lead presenter for five years on the popular BBC lunchtime show “Pebble Mill at One” and became a household name with the daily viewing public,of twelve million people.
Howard’s Company was often engaged to create spectacular Floral Displays for important Royal events including Weddings and other Official Entertaining. Clients included the late Diana,Princess of Wales and Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
As a Judge he has Judged the National Floristry Finals several times and Judged both the Europa Cup and World Flower Cup in Sweden in 1992.
As an Author his books were published by Batsfords and his “Flower Arrangers Guide to Showing” is still used by many competitors when entering flower shows.
Howard divides his time between travelling the World as a Special Interest Lecturer, he has been seven times completely around the globe,and living in rural Shropshire where his beautiful country home is often featured in “glossie” magazine features.
Presently, Howard Franklin is the Society and Social Editor of Shropshire Life Magazine,where he reports on the grand social events in England’s most rural and beautiful County.
