Konomi Yajima
A judge of the former Society of Floristry since 2003 and currently a member of UK Floristry Judges Guild. Konomi has been judging in various competitions for SoF, RHS Flower Shows in Harrogate, Tatton Park, Hampton Court, Chelsea, Chelsea Hub Heats, Worldskills UK and regional floristry competitions. Her most recent judging work was for the Chelsea Flower Show and the Hampton Court Flower Show in 2016.
Konomi was trained as a floristry examiner in 2003, and was involved in practical examining between 2004 and 2006.
She has been teaching floristry/flower arranging and providing wedding flower services over 30 years. She was a college lecturer in floristry at Southwark College in London for over 10 years.
She is a holder of NDSF (National Diploma of the Society of Floristry), PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education), an MA in TPCS (Teaching in the Post-Compulsory Sector), a BA in English literature, and the Japanese Teachers’ Training Certificate (IIEL, UCLES).
Born and brought up in Japan, Konomi, after graduating from a university, worked in the education and training section of a retail company. When she decided to come over to UK, her first encounter with floristry was at Southwark College in London in 1984. She has lived in London since the late 1980s.
During her career in teaching floristry at college, she devoted her efforts to helping many students achieve success in the flower industry.
