Kate Whelan
Kate studied Surface Pattern and crafts at university and then found her passion, working at a small florist in Manchester. After retraining to earn floristry qualifications at college she then focused on retail floristry before concentrating on events as a speciallity.
In 2009 Kate left the UK to work in Bermuda as Corporate client cordinator for hotel contracts and destination weddings. This move allowed further development of her floral design skills and business acumen. On returning home Kate began a freelance career and gained a teaching qualification, wishing to share her experience with the next generation of florists.
Whilst studying to pass the UKFJG exams Kate gained her L4 and 5 in Professional Floristry. She achieved awards for the highest Practical exam marks in L4 and Highest Theory marks in L5.
Kate sat on the board of Directors for the BFA for 7 years between 2018 and 2025 focusing on communications and serving as Vice Chair.
She now currently specialises in Weddings/Event freelancing and, through her own business, hosts workshops for corporate clients. Most recently Kate has become a certified Florint Judge, allowing her to judge in international competitions.
